Resolution!
Today was a good day! Today was the day that the sofa repair guy was scheduled to come, to see if he could fix my sofa. I thought I had mentioned it here as one of my recent stressors, but it turned out I was so focused on the builders and “the noise” from across… Continue reading

Update on crazy
Kirsten came by yesterday and, while she was here, she delivered my note to the neighbor’s house across the street about the weird persistent noise. (She left it inside their screen door.) She declined to hand the other note to the builders. I can’t really blame her; I wouldn’t have wanted to do it either!… Continue reading

Disturbing the peace
One should never wonder, out loud or in print, how things could possibly get worse, because inevitably they do. Things got worse here about three weeks ago, and they were already pretty chaotic. Backing up a bit: A couple of months ago, the people who own the neighboring house (on the side of both my… Continue reading

How life can change…
Ten years ago on this date (according to Facebook), I got up at 7 a.m., hauled everything out of my garden shed, hosed it out, scrubbed down the wood with Murphy’s Oil Soap, rinsed, swept out the water, and left it to dry, whilst going in to make breakfast at 9:15. Then I spent a… Continue reading

Consequences
I don’t know how to write this without sounding self-pitying or aggrieved, but I feel like I have to get it out, so… One of the worst parts of the loss of mobility that you don’t really think about when you are considering all the physical limitations is the emotional and actual isolation that ensues… Continue reading

Limitations and solutions
Last week, the kid who waters all the flower beds in my yard, front and back, came on Monday night and then agreed that he would be back on Thursday afternoon. Thursday afternoon came and went, and he didn’t show, so I texted him and he said he’d come after work. (He got a job… Continue reading

Feeling useless…and fragile
I had kind of a meltdown yesterday and, in the wake of that, today has been a total waste in terms of any kind of accomplishment. So I’m not in the best place in this moment. There are also circumstances that are making it worse: I haven’t had a functioning furnace for several years now,… Continue reading

The song of the utilities, cont.
It’s the following Friday, and plumbers still invade my home. But they are doing all good things, and I am grateful! It took them three days to repipe from galvanized to copper, locating a couple more leaks along the way (these pipes were disintegrating in place!), and then they nicely plastered the two walls they… Continue reading
About Me
I started this blog to talk about a genetic, fibrotic fat-storing (some say autoimmune) condition called Lipoedema, which is something I began to experience in my 60s, although some see early onset at puberty, or post-pregnancy, or at menopause. The other “L” condition from which I suffer is Lymphedema, as a common secondary effect of the fibrosis that blocks lymphatic drainage. Despite the fact that one in 11 women suffer from lipoedema, most doctors have never heard of it, so on top of the pain and embarrassment of this extremely obvious malady, millions of us are out there being fat-shamed for a condition that isn’t contingent on diet or exercise for its growth. This blog was intended to share my reactions.
I have, however, reserved the right to discuss “other stuff” here and, increasingly, since January 20th, 2025, that is politics, because what else, after all, are we legitimately obsessed with in this age of fascism in these United States of America? So while the “theme” of this blog may be confusing, it is my blog, where I can talk about whatever I wish. You are not constrained to read the parts you don’t like. But I feel compelled to write about them.
